Started a new painting yesterday, it's 48 x 40 inches, no title yet but I'm excited about how it's progressing. Still has a way to go but so far so good. I took some photos along the way to show the process, in the first few you can see a glimpse of an older piece (never finished) that I painted over.

New Website
I just completed revamping and updating my website, kaisamuelsdavis.com.
It includes new work from 2012 and new studio images. I've also compiled all the archived work into the main site so it's a bit simpler and easy to view, there are now gallery sections for 2011, 2010 and 2005 - 2009.
Please take a look and let me know what you think. I'm excited about the new paintings I've been working on and it would be great to get some feedback.
Thanks!

New painting in progress
I don't normally use underpainting in my work but I just got a few new colors and was excited to use them. It turns out my favorite color is a combination of Alizarin Orange and Quinacridone Gold Brown. I used it to block in a new painting and didn't have the heart to paint over it all.
Facebook...
I finally caved and started a Facebook page, you can visit it here. Feel free to stop by and comment or 'like'. I have a few albums of pictures and will make sure to keep it updated with news, information and work.

Panorama in Paris
If anyone is in the Paris area during the next month, I'm part of a group show titled Panorama at Galerie Rauchfeld, the show will be up until May 26. It's a great looking space (not that I've been there, unfortunately) and they represent a lot of good work. With any luck I'll be able to make the next show but for now this is all I have to go on... (thanks for the images David!)

On to the next one
Here's a new ocean scape I just finished yesterday titled After the Storm, it's for a sale at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery, the sale will be May 9-13 at Fort Mason, SF.
The painting is of the waves at Goat Rock Beach where the Russian River empties out into the Pacific. There had just been a few days of rain and the muddy river water turned the ocean brown, though the blue water is still holding it's own on the horizon.

Beyond Words Installed
Here are a few images from my new show, Beyond Words, installed at Quicksilver gallery in Forestville, CA. If you'd like to stop by to see the work, the gallery is closed Tuesday and Wednesday and the show will be up until May 20.
The wall of paint in the middle of the room is the palette wall from my studio where I scrape the excess paint off my palette everyday when I'm finished working. I had to trim it down a bit to fit in the gallery but I think it helped bring a bit of environment and history to the show.
The opening had a good turnout, there's been a great response so far and a few sales. I'm very excited about the new work and would love to hear what you think of it, thanks for looking!
(I'm also in a group show in Paris starting today called Panorama at Gallery Rauchfeld, I'll post pictures as soon as I have them)

Beyond Words
It's been busy here in the studio lately (hence no posts in a while), I've been working on a show coming up in April titled Beyond Words at Quicksilver Gallery in Forestville, CA. It's a beautiful space and the town is right near the Russian River. If you live in the Bay area the opening will be on Saturday the 14th from 4-6pm. For those who aren't nearby I'll be posting images of the show once it's installed.
I'm excited about the direction the new paintings are heading, they're a bit more expressive and loose with more prominent brush strokes and texture. The idea for the show so far (it changes constantly) is that the majority of the work stems from one painting titled The Reflection (seen below). There will be a cluster of paintings directly opposite representing all the chaos and clutter in his head. People he knows, has seen or imagined, places he's been or wants to be, flashes of insanity, lust, calmness, anger and tranquility. All this will pour out of him in an attempt to clear his head and gain a sense of clarity and focus. Essentially it is meant to show one person confronting himself and his thoughts in order to move forward.
It's still a loose, abstract idea at the moment but it's progressing nicely so far. The card for the show is below and I'll be posting more information and images shortly.

Back to work
I've been working mostly on commissions and other projects for the last few months and I finally have time for my personal work. I have a show coming up in April called Beyond Words so it's time to get to it! Hopefully I'll be off and running and will have lots of new updates in the coming weeks and months. I still have to brainstorm and come up with a game plan so for now I'm just trying to get some paint down. In theory I'd like to incorporate video, sculpture, ink and watercolor into the show but we'll see...
For now here's a small painting I just finished and one that I'm working on.
